A good sleep is very important for pregnant women. However practically all future moms sometimes suffer from insomnia.

Even the government looks after women’s good sleep and exempt them from night works. On the 30th week of pregnancy, the government provides women with paid maternity leave. However, pregnant women often have sleep problems beginning with the second part of the pregnancy.

Causes of sleep disorder

1. Troubled thoughts

Women very often cannot fall asleep because of troubled thoughts. This is not surprise: the pregnancy is too important period with a lot of fears and worries. In this case, because of hormone changes women become too sensitive.

2. Uncomfortable positions for sleeping

You cannot sleep on the stomach – it is big, doctors do not recommend sleeping on the back, to turn side to side is a little bit heavy, when you are heavily pregnant. As a result – you suffer insomnia at night and get drowsy during the day.

3. Physiological characteristics

You need to sleep and your bladder makes itself felt. There is such notion “nycturia” (urinating at night). This term is used when the quantity of urinates are more at night. When a woman is not pregnant and has nycturia it can be a symptom of urinary track system pathology. During pregnancy, it is quite normal: during the day, when a woman is on her feet, grown uterus puts pressure on ureters and urine flows into the bladder slowly. At night, when a woman lies down on the side, the uterus displaces, ureters are free and all urine flows into the bladder.

What should you do in each situation?

1. Troubled thoughts

You can consult psychologist in case of the increased level of anxiety to choose relaxation technique. Using of medicines is possible, but most of sleeping peels and tranquilizers during pregnancy are contraindicated, because they can have negative impact on the fetus. Soft herbal medicines are exception, but you can take them only after the consultation with the doctor who treats you.

2. Uncomfortable positions for sleeping

You can use special pillow for pregnant women to avoid the inconveniences. You can buy them into special shops or into some drugstores. This pillow is a U-shaped or C-shaped roller, which helps you to put you grown tummy comfortably. Then this pillow turns into the pillow for breast-feeding – you can put there your baby.

3. Physiological characteristics

It is a little bit harder to harmonize them; nevertheless, there are some ways to help. You can take up knee-elbow position (on all fours, resting your elbows on the floor) to regulate kidney and bladder functions. This position helps to free the ureters and to recover urine outflow. Also in this position, you can give you back a rest (it can disturbs a woman because of heavy weight on it). After sleepless night the drowse often disturbs you. If this happens, you can get a sleep during a day to compensate the lack of sleeping at night. Do not forget if you got enough sleep at a daytime it will be harder to fall asleep at night. Possibly, if you cannot sleep at night, daily routing changing is reasonable solution. Do not worry about daily routine changes. You will have a baby and he has not heard about it anything.
Try to use pregnancy to gain strength for childbirth and his upbringing and it does not matter when you will sleep at night or at daytime.
